Welcome! I started this blog because I love to craft. I dabble with scrap booking, and card making. I love bending, folding and tweaking paper. I try other crafts, too. I hope to share some projects with you.

Spring Fever-April Tag Swap

This month's tag swap theme was "Spring Fever". It was much harder than I thought it would be to come up with a theme. There were already "April Showers", "Spring" and "Easter" swaps listed. What more is left?
Finally I came up with a theme. I bet most people think that I already know what the monthly theme will be and even that I already have my tag done. That's not true. I have to wait until all the monthly swaps are listed and then try to come up with something a little different. Usually it ends up that at the last minute I'm racing for the deadline. This month I finished my tag on the due date. All that I could say was that I was glad that I didn't have to mail it!

THIS IS THE TAG I MADE

 Front

Back

I started this tag by cutting apart an envelope that I received a card or ATC swap in. I thought it was so pretty. There was no way that I would ever throw something so pretty away. I knew that I would find a way to use it one day. I folded it inside out and in half so that I could use it for the background on both sides of my tag. Then using my Silhouette cutting machine I cut out the basket. I painted the underlay light brown and then painted the top a darker brown. I often cut everything out in white card stock and then paint it later, that's what I did with this tag. I then glued it together and sat it aside. I then cut out three different flower shapes in two sizes. I painted them. When they were dry I used an embossing tool and a black foam pad to give them dimension and shape. I glued two flowers together. Then I put a drop of glue in the center of each flower and dropped micro-beads into it. I love making paper flowers. I made so many more than what I really needed. I'm sure that I will find somewhere to use them. Then I went back and cut out the leaves and the grass and painted them green. I glued them into place. I glued the flowers in place. Then I tied a tiny yellow bow and glued it to the handle.
On the back I first cut out the cattails, the darker green grass, and the butterflies. I painted them and sat them aside. I then cut out the bunny. I painted it brown and after it dried I ran it through my sticker machine top side down. I then peeled it off the tape and pressed it top side down into brown flocking powder. Then I dropped a tiny drop of black Puffy Paint onto a non-stick pad. After it dried I picked it up using tweezers and glued in place for the bunny's eye. Then I went back and cut the front row of grass out. I painted it a lighter green. I stamped the quote onto copy paper and then cut around it with edging scissors. I first glued the quote in place, then the dark grass, the bunny, then I glued the lighter grass in place. I dropped the butterflies in last. I finished my tag by tying it with blue, pink and yellow ribbon.

These were some really fabulous tags. They really did give me "Spring Fever!" This time, for the first time I held them together into a tag book, just to see how they would look together. All the different artists and techniques together made a breathtaking tag book. Now I'm really excited about this tag book. I think that it might be time to start thinking about a cover for it. Until next time.

Pets Swap

This swap is about pets. I have two little cairn terriers that I adore. I love taking pictures of them. I even make clothes for them. They are really quite spoiled but yet they are very obedient. On occasion I make scrap book pages of them. I can't imagine life without them. They follow me around the house all day long so it's not unbelievable that sometimes my projects pick up a dog hair or two. This time as I taped the envelope sealed to send my ATC's to the swap hostess I trapped a dog hair beneath the tape. It could have been worse...it could have been stuck somewhere on the ATC.

THIS IS THE ATC THAT I MADE

I have quite a few rubber stamps. I seldom use them. This stamp I love. If you ink it lightly and don't press too hard it hardly makes a mark on the paper. It gives a few lines like a sketch like I do for drawing. It gives me the freedom of getting out my watercolor paints and painting it. My kind of fun! I stamped this onto a tan colored card stock. The bones and footprints are another rubber stamp. I then cut out the word "Love" with my die cutting machine. I finished it with a little footprint plastic button.

A Wee Bit Irish March Tag Swap

In March everyone is Irish. We all are a "Wee Bit Irish" so I thought it would be a great theme for March's tag. There were so many different interpretations. They were really fun to see as they came in. I love that part of any swap.

THIS IS MY TAG

 Front

Back

I made the background for the front of this tag by crumpling tissue paper and then applying Mod Podge to card stock and pushing the tissue paper into it. Then I applied a coat of Mod Podge over the top to seal the tissue paper down. After it was dry I gave it a coat of white paint to even out the color. Then I watered down green acrylic paint and painted it. I cut out the clover cluster with my silhouette and edged them with glitter glue. Then I edged the tag with green glitter glue. I glued the clover cluster in place. Then I colored the rhinestone green using alcohol ink and glued it in place.
On the back I painted the outside edge with green paint. I cut 1" strips of green tissue paper and gathered them along the outside edge making a ruffle. I glued it down as I went, slowly gathering and pushing the tissue paper into the glue. Then I mounted the green clover scrap book paper over the ruffle. Next I re-sized and printed the little Irish girl. I cut a piece of green paper and edged it with green glitter. I glued the little girl in the center and then glued it onto my tag. I cut a green fabric clover into size and glued it in the corner. Then I colored a rhinestone with green alcohol ink and put it in the center of the clover. I finished the tag by tying  three different shades of green ribbon at the top.

Mardi Gras Swap

What fun! Glitter and feathers! I really wanted to join this swap. I love glitter and sparkle. I was afraid that I wouldn't have time to make my ATC's but somehow I managed to find the time to make them. It was a soup and sandwich weekend. I'm sure glad that I have a sweet husband and he puts up with me and my crazy art projects. Heck, he even encourages me. Maybe he's as crazy as I am.

THIS IS THE ATC THAT I MADE

I drew the mask and cut it out of card stock. Then I painted it purple and black. I always paint anything that I'm going to cover with glitter so that the white of the paper doesn't show through. Then I covered it with glitter. I used double sided tape to attach the feathers. While the mask was drying I printed out the background image. I found it on the internet. Then I edged a piece of white card stock with gold paint and then glittered the edge with gold glitter. All this fantastic glitter was a Secret Santa gift from Raven a friend from one of the ATC swap groups that I belong to. I just love glitter and I have had so much fun playing with all the colors in the selection that she sent to me. Thank you Raven. When the gold glitter background was dry I attached my image on top of it. Then I attached my mask over the print background.

These are every bit as fantastic and I knew they would be. I'm so happy to be able to add these to my ever growing collection. Thank you ladies for your lovely works of art.

First Lauren Scrap Book Page

I promised myself that I would start working on a scrap book for my granddaughter's open house. I have a little over two years to complete it in. I vowed that I would make a page each month so that it would be ready when she graduates from high school. A few weeks ago I started a new Yahoo Group called ScrapbookNook_. So far I only have one member. If you love scrap booking and feel that you could use a little inspiration this is the perfect group for you. It's a place to post your pages as well as view other people's  pages. This is my first page...it has taken a couple of weeks to finish it. At this rate I should have started years ago.

THE FIRST PAGE
PRINCESS LAUREN

I made the crown by taking a picture of  Cindy's dog dish (my little fur princess). I tipped it on it's edge to get the right angle for the crown to form a frame. The pink areas were covered with light pink glitter and the silver areas were covered with silver glitter. I used a product called Triple Thick it's like glossy accents but it comes in a jar and costs less than the other product. Then I glued rhinestones along the band and the crown part. A heart shaped rhinestone is in the center of the crown. I then enlarged Lauren's ultra-sound picture and put it into the crown frame.
Then using my Silhouette cutting machine I cut out the carriage. I re-sized the carriage and the picture that was taken by the hospital staff the day my granddaughter was born. It wasn't a pretty picture...it was taken while they readied her to transport her to hospital that specialized in caring for premature babies. She was born ten weeks early and weighed in at 2lbs. and 10ozs. Since the picture was taken so quickly they didn't even put a diaper on her, so I found a rose and re-sized it to cover that area. I used glitter pens to outline it with. I painted the carriage a darker pink and then I painted the gold areas. I covered them with dark pink and gold glitter. I left the wheels without glitter. I put a crown rhinestone at the top of the carriage, and used rhinestones for the wheel hubs and some small ones on the rims of the wheels.
I then cut out the lettering using my Silhouette cutting machine. The top lettering says "Laurens First Picture" and the date beneath it. The lettering next to the carriage says "Lauren's Birthday" and the date beneath it. It's pretty in person but so hard to photograph because of all the glitter and bling.
Now I have to start working on February and March's pages. I hope that I will be finishing the other pages before the end of April. Somehow I don't feel confident that I will get caught up anytime soon. It's not that I don't want to work on them...it's just finding the time.
I hope you enjoyed seeing this page. I really did enjoy working on it. If you would like to join this group leave a comment or email me at ozmudder@hotmail.com or go to scrapbooknook_subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Lady Bug ATC Swap

I knew that I wanted to do this swap. I just didn't know how far from my original idea that I would stray. I knew that I wanted to make her with her wings open. I just didn't know where I would go from there. Then I started laughing. I had what I thought was a cute idea. I even had a name for my lady bug. Victoria.

THIS IS MY LADY BUG ATC

Victoria's Secret

Revealed!

I started this card with a scrap book paper background on a piece of cardboard. I then used two different rubber stamps and two different embossing powders to create the pearlized embossed flowers. Then I drew a lady bug. I painted her wings red and then using black paint I added the spots. I added a tab on each wing half and punched a tiny hole for a brad. I then cut the body and painted it black. Using a rubber stamp and white embossing powder I placed the white panties and straps on her body. Then I attached the wings in place with a tiny brad. I used a punched circle for her head and glued it over the brad making sure that I didn't glue the wings closed. I then gave her some google eyes. I used double sided tape to attach her to the card. I added a few felt flowers with rhinestone centers as a finishing touch.

These are such fun ATC's. I loved seeing the different way each artist captured their lady bug. They used felt, punches, fabric, and glitter. Each is a miniature work of art. I think everyone enjoyed making their lady bugs almost as much as I did.
